We have often spoken about the Ancient Kingdom of Kadaaram. It was situated at the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia. It occupied the territory of the present States of Kedah and Penang.
It was a very prosperous kingdom and its ports were important international markets. Romans, Indians, Chinese, Arabs, etc., were the people who used to frequent these places.![]()

The kingdom was a rich source of gold. Its rivers contained gold sand. Furthermore, there were abundant spices and forest products.
The kingdom was well-cultivated and hence rich in food material.
One of the important inscriptionswas found in a place called Cherok Tokun. There are remnents of a very ancient temple at the foot of the Bukit Mertajam Hill. At present, there is a very important shrine dedicated to St.Ann. The place and the church possess some untold charm and mystique which immediately bring and fill the mind with calmness.
This inscription was probably carved around the 5th - 6th centuries.
The script is Pre-Pallava and the language is Sanskrit.
The inscription speaks about 'Thus vanquish, the enemies of King Ramaunnibha'.
